SKF Precision Technologies announces the introduction of its new, reconfigurable Module-Mation™ manufacturing cell

Grafton, WI, (June 26, 2000)

SKF Precision Technologies is pleased to announce the introduction of its new, reconfigurable Module-Mation™ manufacturing cell at IMTS 2000.

The Module-Mation manufacturing cell uses a reconfigurable column designed to accommodate an array of applications at costs never before possible. This highly adaptable column delivers more flexible and more economical manufacturing cell solutions to meet various metal removal needs of today's machine tool builders.

The Module-Mation manufacturing cell is easily adaptable to accept a variety of different spindles. For example, a belt-driven, high-horsepower, high torque spindle configuration can be used for steel or cast iron, while a high-speed, integrally-motorized spindle configuration is used to cut aluminum or composites. So the manufacturing engineer can quickly and easily adapt a module for multiple applications, the spindle orientation can be vertical, center mount or horizontal side mounted for maximum rigidity.

Based on research of builders' requirements, this unique, flexible manufacturing cell breaks new ground by using reconfigurable component concepts. Each module is delivered with a choice of three spindle types: belt, motorized or turret and either hardened way or roller bearing axis construction.

The first production model will have a 400 mm cube work area and accepts 40 Taper tooling. Other versions include a 24,000 RPM, 22 kW high speed integrally motorized spindle; a high torque motorized or belt-driven spindle; or a four-position indexing head.

Modules are designed to be control ready with several accessories: limit switches, feedback systems, coolant systems and piping and wiring. For complete specifications, talk to the SKF Precision Technologies designers at IMTS Booth D-4168. Some advance information is available at http://www.skfpt.com.

SKF Precision Technologies, a unit of SKF USA Inc., is an ISO 9001 registered global supplier of high-precision machine components, including slides, spindles, customized modular components and index tables. SKF is the world's largest bearing manufacturer with over 70 factories worldwide.
